My boys are technology mad, especially James. Although we always limited the amount of time they can play on gadgets or tablets it is hard to enforce this all the time especially when they are at school and a lot of their learning is also done through technology. So when Vtech sent us their InnoTab 2 Baby I thought James was probably the perfect little person to try it out.
This InnoTab is aimed at babies as the name suggests. It is suitable for children aged 12 months plus and I would say that it would be suitable for your child until they were 4 or 5. So you would get a lot of years worth of use from it. The Innotab is priced from £60 but this is dependent on where you buy it.
What I like about it is that it comes with a case, so it has extra protection against bumps and drops which are inevitable with a small child. You will also find 2 x stylus, a USB cable, instruction manual and disc in the box.
The purpose of the Innotab is to combine educational games, fun activities and e-books on a multi-functional touch-screen tablet. It is like an introductory tablet for youngsters. It can also help children develop core skills in reading, letter sounds and names, numbers, logic and creativity with the many included fun learning activities.
One of it's main features is a built-in 1.3MP rotating digital photo/video camera fully rotates to take images and videos of others or yourself. It also features a 5" brilliant colour touch screen. There is also a built in microphone and motion sensor for exciting interactive play.
The InnoTab takes 4 x AA batteries ) these aren't included and it does go through batteries quite quickly but you can buy a rechargeable battery pack which would save you money in the long run. As the InnoTab is aimed at small children the battery flap is securely fastened with a screw on battery flap - this needs to be opened and closed using a coin.
Parents can download additional games and learning apps from connecting to the Learning Lodge website via the USB cable (included). The Learning Lodge features more than 350 educational games, e-books, music and videos developed specifically for each child's unique stage of development, as well as their age and interests. You get two free downloads with your Innotab to help start your collection. They are really easy to transfer from your PC to Innotab too. You can also buy lots of software cartridges too so that your child can learn with the help of their favourite characters.
Overall I think this is a great tablet to introduce your child to technology. If you don't want your child playing on your iPad or other expensive gadget then this is certainly something to think about buying them. It would certainly make a great gift idea this Christmas.
